Winter weekend in London

Winter weekend in London

I am so happy to be able to put down my umbrella, empty my backpack and sit down after a busy three days in London. Even though I love being a tourist and love taking a break, this past weekend was almost too full of sightseeing and roaming the streets of London. I had such a nice time with my mum, but now I understand why people say I am always busy and always rushing.

After a six hour coach journey on Saturday, I really wanted to go exploring before the sun went down and the night turned cold. So we walked to Buckingham Palace and down the mall, saw the changing of the guards, went to Trafalgar Square, explored the National Gallery, wandered around Covent Garden, searched for 5 telephone boxes in a row, went in a few theaters asking about last minute tickets, ate pizza at Franco Manca and walked to Euston to where we were staying, and then sat down!

Sunday was a tube day and we made the most of it, we must have got on and off 10+ tubes in the day. We spent some time in Victoria and Albert Museum which was huge, wandered around Leicester Square, walked down Regent Street and Oxford Street, booked in at the Sky Garden and then took a trip to the cinema to see Manchester by the Sea which was really good. I couldn’t get over the fact that a cinema ticket was £22, but I guess that’s London for you!

The Sky Garden has been on my ‘Go to’ list for ages. It was free to go up and you just had to book a time slot beforehand. It was disappointing at first when we got up there are the weather was awful and it was a wash out but we found a few blankets and stayed until it went dark and we got great night time view of London.

On Monday we explored the business areas between Temple and Embankment tube stations and visited St Paul’s Cathedral. We also took a long walk down the Thames and somehow managed to keep warm and dry with the help of numerous hot chocolates.

72 hours later we headed home after a jam packed weekend!

In a few weekends time I am going to Iceland and I literally can’t wait! After this weekend I plan to make more time for relaxing and keeping warm so hopefully I will not be as tired out when I come home.
